SUSTAINABILITY

OUR CORE CONCEPTS

SUSTAINABILITY
Sustainablity is integrated into LT Leon Associates values and design approach.
We believe a sustainable project is one that respects and embraces the environment and its processes while providing balance with social and economic impacts.
Our approach to your project will lend itself to sustainability.

  1. ENVIRONMENT - Consider environmental impacts and take action to embrace our environmental resources
  2. SOCIAL - Consider the social impacts. Be a good neighbor, understand the community's point of view.
  3. ECONOMIC - Your project should be profitable or economical. Look at the costs and savings. Understand the alternatives.

LEED
USGBC%20leed%20logoLeadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is a third party certification program and the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings.
LT Leon Associates is owned and operated by a LEED accredited professional.  We have applied our knowledge of sustainable design on projects seeking LEED certification.

LOW IMPACT DEVELOPMENT (LID)
LID is more than a technique; it’s a mode of thinking.  LT Leon Associates fully embraces and practices LID in planning and design of projects.

LID is an ecologically friendly and cost effective approach to land development and storm water management that aims to mitigate development impacts to land, water, and air.  The approach emphasizes the integration of site design and planning techniques that conserve the natural systems and hydrologic functions of a site.

LID is a highly effective and aesthetically pleasing approach to controlling storm water pollution and protecting developing watersheds and existing urban communities.  Practices such as runoff source control and micro-scale integrated management practices are proven to be simple and effective.

Examples of LID practices, also referred to as Best Management Practices (BMPs), include: bioswales, vegetated swales, buffer strips, rain gardens, bioretention cells, and permeable pavements/pavers.

GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE PLANNING
Green infrastructure is an interconnected network of green space and natural areas (greenways, parks, waterways, wetlands, woodlands) that conserves natural ecosystem values and functions and provides beneficial uses for people.  Techniques are integrated to naturally manage storm water, reduce flooding risk, and improve water quality.

Green infrastructure planning links conservation planning to traditional open space planning of land development, growth management and built infrastructure.  It includes:
compiling a green assets inventory, identifying protection or restoration opportunities, and developing a coordinated approach to locate development or redevelopment appropriately.

Overall, green infrastructure can help sustain a community’s social, economic, and environmental health.

TECHNICAL SERVICE PROVIDER (TSP)
LT Leon Associates is owned and operated by a TSP.  We provide high-quality and personable technical assistance to landowners and agricultural producers to help apply conservation practices on the land.  The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) facilitates the TSP program.

We plan, design, and layout the conservation practices.  Typical conservation practices include: grass waterways, contour buffer strips, field borders, dam/embankments, stream bank and shoreline stabilization, terraces, diversion, and water & sediment control basins.

CERTIFIED FLOODPLAIN MANAGER (CFM)
Floodplain management is a decision-making process that aims to achieve reduced flood losses and protection of the natural resources and functions of the nation’s floodplains.  CFMs are trained and tested to be a knowledgeable and expert resource in addressing floodplain management issues.

LT Leon Associates is owned and operated by a CFM.  We offer expertise in the following areas:
